Chief Executive Officer of Magil Construction, father and grandfather, John is deeply committed to the fight against blood cancers. In 2002, an event plunges him into a caregiving role and changes his vision of the professional/charitable balance: AML leukemia strikes Alyssa, his friend’s daughter, then 11 years old. She gladly recovers and helps John discover the joy of giving back, summarized by this proverb: You make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give.
Today, Alyssa works at the LLSC where John has been actively involved for more than 10 years. With Alyssa’s father, John has co-chaired the Light The Night Walk’s volunteer leadership committee for the past five years. Despite a business trip, he insisted on attending the 2018 Walk live from China via FaceTime!
As Captain, John leads Magil Construction’s Light The Night team, raising funds nationwide with increasingly ambitious yearly objectives. John also contributes to Alyssa’s Crew which has raised more than $1 million over the past 10 years.
A graduate of Concordia University in Civil Engineering, John began his career at Magil Construction as Site Engineer in 1986. Through the years he has successively held the positions of Construction Site Manager, Project Manager, Construction Vice-President, Executive Vice-President, President, and CEO.
John is recognized in the industry for his collaborative leadership and ability to maintain strong business relationships that have contributed to the company’s sustainable growth.
He is also committed to Centraide/United Way, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, his alma mater, and the Centre culturel de la Petite Italie - Casa d’Italia where he served as a volunteer administrator.
