When my daughter Alayla was diagnosed in November 2016 our whole world was turned upside down.
It was the hardest news to hear. My daughter has 2 young girls and we had to tell them that mommy was sick.
Alayla was so strong. We nick-named her “The Fighter” she fought a tough battle. Unfortunately it’s a battle she lost but not for not trying.
She had a big support group of family always around. If it wasn’t me then it was my mom or dad . Aunts and uncles
When I had her girls on the weekend the youngest would say “ let’s go to momma hospital “. Off we would go to see momma.
I have participated in Light The Night for over 2 years now and I want to help raise funds and awareness The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada so we can one day find a cure. I was able to reach the $5,000 milestone by reaching out to friends, family and a local family run business called Food Fare and they helped me by selling orange ribbons for the month of September. The local radio station 99.9 Bob Fm have me a couple interviews on air to promote my fundraisers. I also help a raffle where people would buy a number and have a chance to win some baskets my mom put together.
Light the Night means my family can get together and support each other and Alayla’s girls. They miss their momma and I miss her so much as well . She was a special person and loved by so many. We call her “The Fighter” as she fought a long battle but she always had a smile and family always around to help her. Canadians need to help so we can find a cure . It’s so hard to watch someone you love lose the battle.
